DARK SKIES

We believe all guests should have the opportunity to experience the feeling you get whilst seeing a maze of shining stars/planets or satellites blinking at you.

Unwind in the hot tub for a relaxing way to enjoy the sky or check out our purpose-built viewing platform positioned so you can see the whole of the sky above. You can switch off all the lights so no light pollution will diminish the view. It can take up to 20 minutes for your eyes to adapt to the dark sky so in the carriage you will find a red torch which will help to guide you while your eyes rest and adjust.

There are two telescopes as well as adult and children’s binoculars available for you to use during your stay and lots of seating. We have comfy fold-away chairs so you can place them wherever you want as well as a basket full of cosy blankets to help keep you warm during the cooler months.

Why not fill your flask (ready to use in your kitchen) with a hot chocolate from your hotel chocolat velvetitiser? What is your favourite flavour? 80% dark, white, salted caramel, mint and lots more are available. Whilst sipping your hot chocolate tuck into your tasty locally sourced biscuits and fudge, yum yum!

Make memories to treasure forever with family and friends – sharing the wonders of the night sky ( and it’s for free when you stay at Wannies retreat!). We have lots of literature inside the carriage to help guide you so you can identify what you are looking at and there are some great apps available to download to your phone some of our favourite free ones include such as night sky map, star walk 2, star chart.

Unfortunately, the one thing we cannot provide is the guarantee of a clear night but fingers crossed whilst you stay at Wannies Retreat you have the chance to experience the magic and natural beauty of the dark skies of Northumberland.
